Isn't it hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner? I know I am struggling with the Retail Seasonal push and reminders. Although, it is also a great time to evaluate what kind of gifts to share and give our loved ones. More importantly, I am a firm believer in planning and trying to plan ahead as much as possible.
Yesterday, while thinking about the Christmas Season fast approaching us. I brought out the Wacom Tablet and started doing some very rough sketches and designs in Adobe Photoshop. One of the areas of Photoshop I love is the idea to change colors, designs and shapes on the fly. Traditionally, I would draw out on a piece of paper, trace on layers of onion paper until the final design is a 100 percent of what I had envisioned in my head. Using the Layers panel as a method similar to onion paper. I am able to methodically and quickly go through the process quicker.
Here is an example of a drawing I am working on for Christmas tags -
As you can see in this screen shot image I am working with some very crude shapes and elements to represent a Christmas Stocking stuffed with presents. The photo will be a work in progress but will continue to grow in to a more functional piece that can be printed on a standard computer printer and cut out using a digital die cutting machine.
I hope you follow along in the process and maybe you will be inspired to create your own designs using digital tools accessible to you.
